About Us

Sea Dog Films Pty Ltd is committed to pursuing excellence in the production of broadcast and corporate television. Company Director Leighton De Barros is an award winning cinematographer & director, with international clients from ‘Survivor’ on CBS America, to the prestigious BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol and many independent national and international production companies producing films for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and National Geographic. With a string of awards to his name including seven Australian awards and four Emmy Award Nominations for Cinematography, he is dedicated and committed to the pursuit of excellence in his chosen field.

Leighton is passionate about Australian wildlife, in particular marine mammals and has worked on many projects filming dolphins and whales over the last fifteen years. He has extensive experience diving with, filming and observing the behaviour of these animals. Through his work he has also had some close encounters with dangerous Australian animals such as diving to film a shark feeding frenzy, extensive time filming the most deadly reptiles in Australia and getting to close to a clutch of unhappy Tasmanian Devils. The other spectrum of Leighton’s work has seen him working with wildlife of the ‘human’ kind, on the US hit reality show ‘Survivor’, where he was involved in travelling the world and filming thirteen series. He continues to work on the program..

Leighton has produced and directed an hour long wildlife program titled Whale Patrol for ABC TV & National Geographic TV International and in the past he produced a half hour wildlife/adventure program titled Shark Bay in association with the ABC Natural History Unit, which he also wrote, shot and directed. Leighton is developing other high end wildlife television programs, and his company is exploring new media, including an animated interactive web-based experience about dolphins.

Jodie De Barros is joint Director of Sea Dog Films Pty Ltd who produces and develops ideas for television documentaries, along with production accounting, freelance cinematography, equipment hire, corporate and other media.
